1) Beginner Sen (聲聞乘/小乘)

Hearing Dao with some understanding and practice.

2) Intermediate Sen (緣覺乘/中乘)

Hearing Dao with understanding and can use this knowledge to solve own problems and help oneself live a better life (e.g. living a happier life with less worry).

3) Advanced Sen (菩薩乘/大乘)

Hearing Dao with understanding, is able to use this knowledge to not only solve own problems and help oneself live a better life, but one is also able to help solve other beings’ (seen & unseen) problems in order to help them live better lives.

Therefore, only by helping to enlighten others can you yourself achieve enlightenment.
